Henderson is coming off an injury interrupted 2007 season which allowed him to make just six appearances in the TAC Cup and kept him out of the 2007 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. This didn't worry the Lions however as he was taken with the Lions first pick (eighth overall) at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft. At junior level he showed he was strong overhead averaging over two contested marks per game.
