Polkinghorne was part of the Calder Cannons premiership side in 2007 after also being part of their losing grand final side the year before. He also starred for Vic Metro at the 2007 NAB AFL Championships leading the side in clearances and finishing equal leader in hardball-gets. He was definitely an attacking midfielder throughout his junior career, in 18 games in last seasons TAC Cup, he booted 19 goals and assisted in another 27 teammate scores across the season.
