Leuenberger generated plenty of interest before the Lions snapped him up with the fourth pick overall at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He was seen as the most gifted young ruckman in the draft and he eventually broke through for nine games during last season. His ruckwork wasn't anything special last season but rarely will an 18 year old ruckman dominate his first season of AFL football. His best game came in Round 20 against the Swans when he played a career-high 93 minutes finishing with 15 disposals for the match - every one of those finding the target.
