Tyler was selected with the Lions fifth pick at the 2006 NAB AFL Draft (54th overall). He had spent the past two seasons with the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup playing in various positions all over the ground. He played all four NAB Cup games for the Lions in the 2007 pre-season but failed to appear at senior level during the H&A season. He played just eight games for the Suncoast Lions before a hamstring injury struck and ended his season.
