Mills has played 15 games since being picked up by the Lions at the 2005 NAB AFL Draft. His kicking has been his major worry in the early stages of his career as he has hit the target with just 70% of his kicks so far in his career. He recognises these struggles however and has had more handballs than kicks so far in his career. Despite being developed as a defender in his first season he was used as a decoy forward next to Jonathan Brown during the 2007 season.
