Bolton is very much an inside player and his contested possession rate of 47% last season was the highest of any player to average more than 17 disposals. He contested the third-most centre bounces of any Sydney midfielder, resulting in an eighth-placed ranking in league centre clearances for the season. He laid the second-most tackles at the club and the 15th-most in the league throughout the H&A rounds. Despite all of this his name was bandied around at trade time but survived to remain a Swan for 2008.
