Mathews bounced back last year after he dropped off between 2005-06. He played as a tagger every week, generally getting the second or third best opposition midfielder. He averaged 13 disposals and conceded 15 to his opponents on average, conceding 20 or more disposals in a game only four times. Mathews has featured in the club's top 10 of the B&F in six of the last eight seasons.
