O'Keefe, an elite performer in the 2006 TAC Cup when playing for the Geelong Falcons, had an interrupted 2007 due to injury. He played just six games in the Canberra league. At TAC Cup level in 2006 he averaged the most uncontested marks and effective kicks of any player drafted from that competition. O'Keefe played as a half-forward that season with many people making similarities between him and Richmond's Nathan Brown.
