Mattner left Adelaide after being dropped for their elimination final against Hawthorn last season after a below-standard final few rounds of last season. His versatility is what appealed to the Swans, who see him as a ball-carrier to support the likes of Nick Malceski and Tadhg Kennelly. Mattner is a thumping kick and hard tackler who has spent time on the wing and defence in his time at Adelaide.
