Jones is a former Kangaroo player who was added to the Eagles rookie list prior to the 2007 season. After managing just six appearances in three years at the Kangaroos he played four games last season averaging a career-high of 102 minutes per game. He was used as a tall forward and was impressive at WAFL level playing 18 games and booting 63 goals, including nine bags of four goals or more.
