Selwood's form in 2008 went highly unrecognised by most of the football world but he clearly established himself as one of the best run-with players in the AFL. He finished third in West Coast's B&F after playing 23 games for the season and averaging 20 disposals. He was involved in one of the biggest stories of the tribunal in 2007 after he was accused of using insulting language towards Des Headland. He was eventually cleared of the charge upholding his clean record at the AFL tribunal.
