After a controversial exit from Brisbane at the end of 2006, both the Bulldogs and Akermanis would have expected more of his 2007 season. As the Bulldogs tumbled down the ladder, Akermanis produced statistically his worst season since 1997. At his best earlier this decade Akermanis was one of the AFL's leading goalkicking midfielders/half-forwards, producing high inside 50 numbers and being one of the AFL's best at getting the ball inside 50. While his ball winning and goal-kicking have declined in recent seasons, Akermanis still has the ability to play an important role in 2008.
