Lake, formerly known as Harris, transformed his game in 2007, going from a pure full-back stopper to an attacking key defender who backed himself at all times. His marking became a feature of his play as he took the most contested marks of any defender and read the play better than anyone in his role. This change in game led to him spoiling the ball less and conceding more goals, but he made up for this by providing plenty of rebound for his side, something that was rewarded by the club as he won his first Bulldogs B&F.
