Since being a top five draft pick in 2000, McDougall has failed to live up to expectations. He played 38 games in six seasons at West Coast before being traded to the Bulldogs prior to the 2007 season where he managed only five games. He spent the majority of last season in the VFL including a three-week stint in the reserves which suggests he's a long way off becoming a regular at AFL level. The fact that the Bulldogs are screaming out for key position players at both ends of the ground means McDougall is likely to get some more opportunities in 2008.
