Gardiner's last AFL game was in Round 15, 2006. His career was at its peak between 2000-03, but he has played only 18 games since, fighting both injuries and off-field indiscretions. In 2007 he did not play a game of footy at any level. With the Saints desperate for a ruckman, Gardiner will be fighting for the No.1 spot along with ex-Cat Steven King.
