Thursfield looks to have been earmarked as Richmond's No.1 defensive stopper after playing 15 games last season at full-back and conceding 36 goals - the second-most at Tigerland. In 2007 he effected the sixth-most spoils in the AFL (92), averaging six per game, but grabbed only eight marks from opposition kicks, suggesting his first instinct is to spoil. After being elevated off the rookie list in 2005, Thursfield has played 22 career games with his 2006 being ruined by a serious knee injury.
