The newly appointed vice-captain of the Tigers, Newman, had an outstanding 2007 considering he was coming off a broken leg. Playing as a general defender he ranked second at the Tigers in marks from opposition kicks and second in rebound 50s. He is a very good reader of the play and uses the ball well. In the last five seasons he has finished in the club's B&F four of the five seasons with his only miss being in 2006 when he broke his leg.
