McMahon is an outside player who loves to run and carry, finishing with the most running bounces at the Bulldogs and the 14th-most in the AFL last season. The Tigers have recruited him for that and his foot skills. However, in 2007 he recorded a poor kicking efficiency (75%) for a defender for the third consecutive season. As a small defender he conceded 20 goals for the season with his worst result coming in Round 10 when he conceded four goals in 56 minutes to Carlton's Matthew Lappin. McMahon's best result in a Bulldogs B&F was ninth in 2005.
