Boak exceeded all expectations in 2007, first appearing in Round 12 and holding his spot for the remainder of the season. His average of 16 disposals per match was the fourth-highest of any 2007 debutant, with his best performance coming in Round 19 against Carlton when he had 28 disposals and scored two goals. As a junior he was an aggressive tackler and this continued in 2008 at AFL level with an average of three per game.
