Massie played 12 games last season and was used in various roles in defence doing jobs on the likes of Lance Franklin, Nick Riewoldt, Brad Johnson and Paul Medhurst. He had varying success on Lance Franklin during the season as he kept him to just five disposals and one goal in their first duel in Round 14, but failed to back it up in the all important elimination final conceding 12 disposals and seven goals. Massie has been in the AFL for 10 seasons now and has played 119 games playing 20 or more games in a single season only once.
