As a junior, Tippett was used as both a strong marking full-forward and a ruckman. At the 2006 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships he ended the carnival with eight goals and nine contested marks - ranking in the top five of all players at that carnival. Tippett played just six games for one goal at SANFL level last season before a shoulder injury ended his season in May.
