Johncock had an indifferent 2008 season as he averaged 21 disposals, six marks and three rebound 50s per game in the opening nine rounds, before his form dropped away. He struggled for consistency between Rounds 10-16, eventually being dropped from the side because of a lack of professional preparation. After being left out of the side for two games, he returned to the side playing as a forward in Rounds 19 and 20. He struggled in this role however, averaging just eight disposals in that time. Johncock will be looking to recapture his 2006 form when he finished third in the Crows' B&F playing as one of the competition's premium small defenders.
