Thompson was Adelaide's No.1 midfielder last season averaging 24 disposals per game and ranking sixth in the competition for clearances and ninth for tackles. He kicked more than 15 goals for the fourth season in succession and also recorded the second-most goal assists at Adelaide. He finished third in the Crows' B&F for the second season in a row and represented Australia against Ireland in the 2008 International Rules Series.
