Sunday was a long day

It was a good win for us at the weekend against a team who are very much an out-and-out attacking team. We went into it thinking about the games we had dropped so far in the season and we weren't too happy about the previous two week's results against the Kangas and the Doggies. We played some great football and implemented our game plan to perfection.
For myself it was a highly eventful day, about 15 minutes into the first quarter I dislocated my shoulder and had to get the attention of the doctor to put it back in. He came over, put it back into place and off I continued with the game. Don't get me wrong in thinking it isn't very sore, it is very very sore when it happens, but because it has happened a lot I have became accustomed to it popping in and out. So I continued on in the game and about 15 minutes into the second quarter I went to tackle an opponent and I hit the ground very hard and out popped my kneecap. At the time, when it happened, I knew straight away and I looked down and saw my kneecap sitting off my knee so my immediate reaction was to hit it a few times to try and pop it back in. This didn't work so the doctor was making his way over to me and when he got there he popped it back into place.
A lot of things went through my head while sitting on the bench and I was in a bit of pain as a few people have written but the anguish on my face was not pain but more of 'what have I done to deserve this' and I just didn't want to go through all the rehabilitation again and I really wasn't in a very nice head space following the game. I went home and my girlfriend Nicole drove me home and I just stayed up all night icing my leg and was just thinking about Ireland and how much better or easier it would be to be at home and to be around my family. I stayed up icing util 5:30am, got a few hours sleep and had a scan at 7:30am in the morning.
The scan really changed my whole head space and once I saw the doctor following the scan we could see there was no bone or major ligament damage and that I really got out of jail and it could have been a lot worse. So the plan now is to just rest and recover and start some leg weights and being off my legs like swimming in the next few days and hopefully get back for next week's game. At the moment though it's more a case of see how I go and how I am feeling each week.
I certainly earned my pay on Sunday and really learnt a lot from this experience in that you have to stay positive as much as you can and that life doesn't throw things your way that you can't handle. There could have been a lot worse things happen to me but they didn't so now it's time to enjoy my second crack at it.
